As Africa Day approaches this Monday, cities across the continent and the global African diaspora are gearing up for a weekend filled with music, fashion, food and cultural celebration.
Africans and those who love it commemorate the day annually to mark the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union). Over the years, between the serious and important speeches about issues concerning Africa, the day has also evolved into a global showcase of fashion, food, music and all things beautiful about Africa.
From massive street carnivals in the North West province to high-society galas in Europe, here is how you can immerse yourself in the festivities this Monday, 25 May 2026.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
This diplomatic and lifestyle experience is happening at the African Union Headquarters Commemoration.
Monday features the official 63rd-anniversary ceremony, a vast Cultural Bazaar, culinary tasting markets, and live art installations.

South Africa, North West: Climate Action Parades and Constitutional Pride
South Africa’s flagship national celebration is breaking away from rigid political speeches, opting instead for a vibrant intersection of culture and lifestyle.
The main event will take place at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg, North West Province.

Limpopo, South Africa
The University of Venda is running its annual institutional Africa Day Celebration, focusing on regional student leadership and Pan-African history.
KZN, South Africa
Refugee Social Services will host an Africa Day fundraiser supporting refugees, GBV survivors and vulnerable youth through counselling, therapeutic programmes and livelihood support. The event is on in in Durban central on Saturday, 23 May.

Western Cape, South Africa
The Thabo Mbeki Foundation Africa Day programme in Cape Town, South Africa, concludes its week-long series of cultural exhibitions and sovereignty dialogues on Monday, marking the very first time the former president’s flagship platform has taken over the Western Cape.

KoMjekejeke Cultural Heritage Village will celebrate Africa Day on 30 May 2026 with live Afro-pop, Amapiano, Maskandi, hip hop and traditional performances, authentic African cuisine and a curated artisan market, as guests gather in vibrant African attire to honour culture, heritage and unity.
Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo
The Kintélé International Conference Centre will host the African Development Bank Africa Day Celebration. Starting at 14h30 GMT+1, the event features the African Cultural Heritage Show—where attendees flaunt modern traditional attire—alongside a live interactive digital art canvas.

While Harlem’s The Africa Center Africa Day Festival takes place later in the week with independent film screenings and contemporary book talks, local community hubs across the city are launching virtual live-streams of the continental ceremonies on Monday morning.


UK, Germany, Canada, France, Sweden
ONE will host a range of events across the the world, including in the UK, Germany, Canada, France and Sweden where it operates, spotlighting African leadership, culture and activism.
The UK capital is leaning into prestigious fashion and networking. In collaboration with global advocacy groups, the city is hosting an Official Africa Day Reception. Germany will host a carnival and Sweden will host a global health event.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will host “Africa Day: Italy–Africa: Cultures in Play” on 25 May at Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, exploring sport as a driver of dialogue, identity and development through discussions featuring African and Italian leaders, diplomats and sporting figures.
